Fraud Alert: Beware of Scams Impersonating BNP Paribas
We are aware of ongoing fraudulent activity involving individuals and entities impersonating BNP Paribas staff. These scams aim to deceive clients by selling fake financial instruments or legitimate instruments with fake payment details, and may include falsified documents, misleading communications, and illegitimate requests for fund transfers.
What You Need To Know
Fraudsters may:
- Use publicly available information such as names of BNP Paribas employees, office addresses, and registration details – to create fake documents and emails that appear legitimate.
- Send emails from deceptive domains such as @bnpclientportal.com, @bnpparibas-wm.com, @bnpclienthub.com, @bnpparibas-pw.com, @bnpparibaas.com or similar lookalikes.
- Operate fake websites such as www (dot) bnpclienthub (dot) com.
- Provide false documentation and request fund transfers to illegitimate accounts.
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a formal warning about such scams involving BNP Paribas. You can read the full notice here: https://www.fca.org.uk/news/warnings/bnp-paribas-clone-authorised-firm
How to Stay Safe
- BNP Paribas operates multiple official websites. If you are unsure whether a site is legitimate, begin your verification at https://www.bnpparibas.com or consult your usual BNP Paribas contact.
- Most BNP Paribas email addresses end in ‘bnpparibas.com’, but some business lines may use other official domains. If you receive an email, verify that the domain is spelled correctly and matches known BNP Paribas addresses.
- Do not rely solely on names, addresses, or phone numbers to confirm legitimacy. Scammers often combine real details with fake ones. Instead, use the FCA’s Financial Services Register to confirm contact details: https://register.fca.org.uk
If You Suspect Fraud
- Do not respond to suspicious communications or transfer any funds.
- Report the incident immediately to https://www.actionfraud.police.uk which is the UK’s national fraud and cybercrime reporting centre.
- If you have already transferred funds, contact your bank immediately to initiate recovery procedures.
Stay Protected
Only deal with financial firms that are authorised by the FCA. Doing so ensures you are protected by the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) if things go wrong.
If you are ever in doubt, contact BNP Paribas directly through verified channels.
