Business Area/Dept Overview

Within BNP Paribas, ALM Treasury is responsible for the management of liquidity, along with interest rate risks and foreign exchange risks in the Banking Books.

Job Purpose & Scope

The Strategic Advisor & Treasurer, Vice President Role, supports the UK ALMT in its liquidity optimization mandate by contributing and creating value on liquidity topics through market and balance sheet analysis. As part of the treasury team, the role also contributes with the management of the liquidity position in the London Branch banking books along with its associated liquidity, interest rate and foreign exchange risks.

 Scope:

This role may be carried out within a range of experience depending on the development of knowledge and skills in the role and the role-holder’s ability to work with increased autonomy.

Core accountabilities of role  

·        An advanced level professional exercising considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering initiatives within ALMT.

Main responsibilities:

     o   Market risks and value creation (liquidity, interest rate, foreign exchange, credit): generation of market optimization strategies by maintaining constant interaction with market participants (internally and externally) and facilitating their execution (from all relevant aspects such as regulatory, accounting, etc).

      o   Liquidity Management: management and optimisation of the liquidity position of the main currencies impacting the London Branch and their relevant reserves account, within ALCO guidelines, ensuring an appropriate liquidity position at all times and proper and functional access to Central Bank facilities.

 o   Data Analysis and Operational Efficiency: to retrieve and analyse data from multiple axis (market and liquidity risks, limits, balance sheet, etc.) and convey important messages simply and efficiently.

 o   Risk, P&L and Budget: participate to the budget process and closely follow and explain its achievement throughout the year. Assist with the review and request of risk limits.

                   o   Regulation: acts as a subject matter expert on the FBL/Volcker regulatory & policy framework and across the desk, ensuring full compliance.

 o   Regulatory Reporting: assists with ensuring the compliance of key regulatory reporting requested by supervisors and regulators.

  

  •          Drives innovation, bringing market insights, leading market knowledge and best practices to ALMT. Assists the definition and enforcement of business procedures and policies. 
  •          Influences and supports members of the team by taking active part in decision making and approach where problems are complex and require sophisticated analysis or experience. Acts as a point of escalation for any junior staff.
  •  Manages medium sized projects or acts as a key resource in large-scale projects, maintaining appropriate reporting levels.
  •          Contributes to relationships with key stakeholders in the UK for operational ALMT related matters (liquidity, IRBB, FXBB), and coordinates with ALMT steering where needed, to ensure that a high quality integrated service is provided on time and to budget. Liaises   with multiple internal stakeholders across territory management, ALMT and control functions.
  •  Trains and mentors other team members within the scope of their activity, ensuring sufficient cover during times of leave and provides proactive support / backup for all other operations when required.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience 

  •         Professional qualification and expert knowledge of the matters listed below and how these matters fit within the broader organisation as well as more deeply within ALM Treasury:

o   Extensive knowledge of Financial Markets and Economics

o   In depth knowledge of Fixed Income products, notably cash and bonds, derivatives (interest rate and foreign exchange), repurchase agreements.

o   Subject matter expertise on GBP/USD/EUR currency funding markets (unsecured and secured) and strong understanding of the underlying macro-economic drivers.

o   Solid knowledge of key UK and Global regulations impacting funding and liquidity risk management (LCR, NSFR, French Banking Law, Volcker Rule, etc).

  •  Attention to detail and input accuracy. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate technical concepts and provide specialist guidance and advice to others.
  •         Strong relationship management skills and an ability to work with individuals to ensure the delivery of set objectives. Experience in providing effective feedback and developing others through support and encouragement.
  •         Proven commercial and communication skills.
  •         Computer literacy and a good understanding of relevant software.
  • Good understanding of business risk and displays great diligence to their activities within the business.
